South African Shop Near Me: UK Shops, Butchers and Biltong
If you have just typed "South African shop near me" into Google, the good news is that there are proper Saffa shops and butchers right across the UK, not only in London. The biggest cluster is in London and Surrey, there are shops and biltong makers in Bristol, Dorset, Swindon, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, Newcastle and Scotland, and most of the businesses below also deliver UK-wide. A few staples, such as Mrs Ball's chutney, rooibos and South African wine, turn up in the big supermarkets too.
Every business on this list has a live website that we checked, and we have described each one using what it says it sells. We have not ranked anyone or done a taste test. The list is correct as of October 2026. Shops open, move and close, so check the website before you drive across the county for a bag of droewors.
What you'll find in a South African shop near you
Most shops carry the same core of home comforts, and the butcheries add fresh meat for the braai:
Biltong and droewors, often made on site and sliced fresh, fatty or lean, wet or dry
Boerewors, fresh or frozen, plus marinated braai meat
Rusks and biscuits such as Ouma, Romany Creams, Tennis and Marie
Sauces and tins including Mrs Ball's chutney, All Gold tomato sauce, Steers sauces and Koo
Breakfast staples like Pronutro and Iwisa maize meal
Snacks and sweets such as Simba chips, NikNaks and Peppermint Crisp
Drinks, from rooibos and Sparletta to South African wine
Seasonal treats like gem squash, which a couple of shops were advertising when we checked
If a British friend asks what droewors is, it is a thin, air-dried beef sausage seasoned with coriander, a close cousin of biltong. For the rest of the vocabulary, from lekker to braai, see our guide to South African slang explained.

What UK supermarkets stock
Supermarkets will not replace a proper SA shop, but a few staples are easy to find. When we checked their websites in October 2026:
Mrs Ball's chutney: Sainsbury's lists Mrs Ball's Original Chutney (470g) online. Stock varies from store to store.
Rooibos: Waitrose sells its own Fairtrade rooibos tea bags, as well as Tick Tock.
South African wine: Waitrose has a South African section in its wine range, and Sainsbury's sells own-label South African wines such as its Taste the Difference South African Sauvignon Blanc.
Boerewors: Hellbent says its boerewors is on sale in Lidl stores in Great Britain. Supermarket ranges change, so check your local store.
Know a shop we have missed?
This list is correct as of October 2026, and we will keep adding to it. If your local Saffa shop is missing, or you have just moved and want a recommendation, ask Saffas near you on Howzit where they shop. Download Howzit, the free app for South Africans in the UK, and the locals will point you in the right direction.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy South African products in the UK?
Specialist South African shops, butchers and biltong makers are spread across the UK, with the most in London and Surrey and others in Bristol, Christchurch, Swindon, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, the Wirral, Newcastle and Scotland. Most of them also sell online and deliver UK-wide. For a handful of staples such as Mrs Ball's chutney, rooibos and South African wine, try the big supermarkets.
Where can I buy biltong near me?
Almost every shop on this list sells biltong, and many make their own, including The Savanna, Snoggy's, St Marcus, Best Biltong, Bob's Biltong and Bristol Biltong. If there is nothing nearby, specialists such as Susmans, Hunters Biltong and Billy Tong deliver across the UK mainland.
Can I buy Mrs Ball's chutney in UK supermarkets?
Yes. When we checked in October 2026, Sainsbury's listed Mrs Ball's Original Chutney on its website, although stock varies by store. South African shops usually carry more of the range, and Graham's Butchers, for example, lists Mild, Hot, Peach, Chilli and Extra Hot.
Is there a South African shop in the UK that offers free delivery?
Several do, usually above a minimum spend. As of October 2026, No 1 South African Shop, Billy Tong and Susmans all advertised free delivery over a minimum order, and Best Biltong advertised free delivery to the UK mainland. Thresholds change often, so check each shop's delivery page before you order.
Can I bring biltong back from South Africa?
No. As of October 2026, GOV.UK says you cannot bring meat or meat products into Great Britain from countries outside the EU, and biltong, droewors and boerewors are all meat products. If you declare them at customs, Border Force will take them away and destroy them, and not declaring banned food can mean a fine of up to £5,000 in England. Buying from a UK shop is the easier option.
